As the Victorian age gave way to the Progressive Era, O.C. Simonds became a seminal figure in the naturalistic landscape movement. As early as the 1880s, Simonds began to use native Illinois plants arranged in naturalistic groupings – perhaps perhaps one of his most important legacies.
